Vidyarthi Sahayahasta (7.5% reservation for rural government school students)
Announced 15 August 2026: 7.5% reservation within the rural quota for professional courses
Vidyarthi Sahayahasta was announced by the Karnataka government on 15 August 2026. It gives students who studied from Class 1 to Class 10 in rural government schools a 7.5 percent reservation within the existing 15 percent rural quota for admission to professional courses such as medicine and engineering. It is a reservation in admissions, not a cash payment. Reports say that detailed guidelines, the documents required and the application process had not been released yet, so there is no separate application form or portal for the scheme as of now. Students are expected to apply through the normal admission process of the course and claim the rural reservation where it applies, and should keep their school records ready as proof of studying in a rural government school. The Department of School Education is named as the nodal department. Wait for the official order and the admission notifications before relying on any detail. Note: a separate scheme with a similar name, the Chief Minister's Vidyarthi Sahay Hasta free coaching scheme, is listed on this site too.
