Saptapadi mass marriage scheme

Free mass weddings at Muzrai temples with a gold mangalya for the bride

Under Saptapadi, the Religious Endowments (Muzrai) department holds free mass weddings at notified Grade A temples. A 2020 report says each bride receives 8 grams of gold mangalya and the groom gets a dhoti, shirt and shawl, and Rs 55,000 goes to the host temple to arrange the ceremony. Who benefits: couples from families who cannot afford a wedding. Eligibility: not listed in the report we found; the couples register for the dates announced by the department. How to apply: contact the executive officer of the temple holding the wedding, or the Muzrai department office of your district. Budget: no separate allocation figure was found in the sources we checked. The amounts are from a 2020 report, so confirm the current ones.
