Karnataka Rohith Vemula Bill, 2026 (proposed law)
A bill against caste-based discrimination in higher education, cleared by the cabinet in April 2026
The 2026-27 budget promised a Rohith Vemula law to prevent caste-based discrimination against students in government, private and deemed universities, and the cabinet cleared the draft bill in April 2026. It is aimed at protecting SC, ST, OBC and minority students. Reports say it proposes equality committees to examine complaints and penalties for offences. Whether the legislature has passed and notified it should be checked, so do not treat it as in force until then.
