PM POSHAN (mid-day meal)
A hot cooked meal for children in government and aided schools
PM POSHAN, earlier called the mid-day meal scheme, gives a freshly cooked meal on school days to children in government and aided schools, with the cost shared by the Centre and state. The aim is to improve attendance and nutrition. In Karnataka it is run by the School Education department as Akshara Dasoha, and the state adds extra items such as eggs and milk. There is nothing for parents to apply for; children are served at school.
