Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
Low-premium crop insurance against drought, flood and pests
PMFBY insures notified crops against loss from drought, flood, hailstorm, pests and disease. Farmers pay a small share of the premium, which is a fixed low percentage of the sum insured, and the government pays the rest. Loan-taking farmers are usually enrolled through their bank, and others can enrol through the portal, a bank or a village service centre before the cut-off date for the season. Karnataka also adds its own share, see the state crop insurance entry.
