PM Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP)

Bank loan with 15 to 35 percent subsidy to start a new micro-enterprise

PMEGP helps people start a new micro-enterprise by giving a subsidy (margin money) on a bank loan. The project cost can be up to Rs 50 lakh for manufacturing and Rs 20 lakh for services. The subsidy is 15 percent (urban) or 25 percent (rural) for general applicants, and 25 percent (urban) or 35 percent (rural) for special categories such as SC, ST, OBC, women, ex-servicemen, persons with disabilities and applicants from aspirational and border districts. Who benefits: individuals aged 18 and above, self-help groups, registered societies and production cooperatives, with no income ceiling and only one person per family. Eligibility: only new units qualify, with a two-week training; units that already got a central or state subsidy and negative-list activities are excluded. How to apply: apply on the PMEGP e-portal of KVIC, or through your District Industries Centre or the State KVIC Directorate or KVIB; the bank gives the loan. Budget: no separate allocation figure was found. These limits come from a published explainer of the revised guidelines, so confirm on the portal.
