Mission Vatsalya

Child protection, foster care, adoption and shelter for children in need

Mission Vatsalya is the Centre's child protection scheme, which replaced the earlier Integrated Child Protection Scheme. It supports child care institutions, foster care and sponsorship, adoption, after-care for young people leaving institutions, and the 1098 Childline helpline. Orphans, abandoned, abused, trafficked or otherwise vulnerable children under 18 benefit. Anyone can report a child in need by calling Childline 1098; admissions happen through the Child Welfare Committee in the district. Funds are shared by the Centre and states; check the Women and Child Development Ministry for current figures.
