Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)

All-weather roads to unconnected rural habitations

PMGSY was launched in December 2000 to connect unconnected rural habitations with all-weather roads. The fourth phase, approved in September 2024 for 2024-25 to 2028-29, plans to connect about 25,000 habitations with a central outlay reported as Rs 70,125 crore. Villagers benefit through better access to schools, markets and hospitals. There is no individual application; roads are chosen from the core network by the state rural development department. Villagers can raise a request with the gram panchayat or the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department.
