National Health Mission (NHM)

Free public health care, ASHA workers and maternal and child health

The National Health Mission brings together the National Rural Health Mission (started 2005) and the National Urban Health Mission (2013). It funds primary and community health centres, free drugs and diagnostics, ambulance services, immunisation, Janani Suraksha Yojana for institutional delivery, and the ASHA community health workers. Everyone can use these services, with focus on rural people, women, children and the poor. No application is needed: visit the nearest government health centre, or meet the local ASHA worker. Budget is shared between the Centre and states and changes each year.

Rules, amounts and dates can change. Confirm the details on the official portal or at your taluk office before you apply.
