Namami Gange

Programme to clean and rejuvenate the river Ganga

Namami Gange is the Centre's flagship mission, approved in 2014-15 with an initial budget of Rs 20,000 crore, to reduce pollution and revive the river Ganga and its tributaries. It funds sewage treatment plants, riverfront and ghat development, industrial effluent monitoring, afforestation and public awareness. The benefit is to people living in the Ganga basin and to the river itself. There is no individual application; it is run by the National Mission for Clean Ganga. It is commonly asked in general knowledge exams. Later allocations and extensions are on the NMCG website.
