Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

Cash help for women who deliver in a government or accredited hospital

Janani Suraksha Yojana is a safe-motherhood scheme under the National Health Mission. It gives cash assistance to pregnant women who deliver in a government hospital or an accredited private facility, to reduce deaths of mothers and newborns. The amount depends on the state category and on whether the woman lives in a rural or urban area, and it is paid after delivery. ASHA workers help women register, reach the facility and claim the money. Eligibility rules differ by state, so ask the ASHA worker or the nearest primary health centre which documents are needed, usually the Aadhaar, the mother and child protection card and bank details. Check the National Health Mission portal for the current amounts.

Rules, amounts and dates can change. Confirm the details on the official portal or at your taluk office before you apply.
